I’ve been on a bit of a Seth Godin trip of late, ever since my nephew got me listening to his podcast.
In one conversation with Seth that I was listening to, he mentioned not being Twitter. Not the usual “social media is a waste of time” conversation that have come up on numerous occasions. It was along the lines of “What would I need to give up in order to be good at Twitter?”
That type of thinking can scale equally well into other areas of life.
“What would I need to give up in order to be good at x?”
What would I need to give up to be good at SQL or Power BI, or pretty much anything?
What amount of good does it do me to play solitaire for three hours while watching TV? What good does it do me to scroll through social medial instead of reading something interesting.
The answer is — unsurprisingly — nothing.
A lot of my, or our time can be better spent doing something of greater value in the long run.
I don’t mean to say that there is no value in relaxation. I am saying that my time can’t be spent resting, while simultaneously doing something mindlessly productive.
