Most of our lives we have been taught to set a goal and to focus our energy on achieving that goal.
Failing to achieve goals are often perceived as a failure of you as a person.
I have now heard from several people that we should in fact be focusing on the process. We cannot sacrifice the process by attaching ourselves to a desired outcome.
Attaching ourselves to a desired result only gives us partial control. However, there are always factors beyond our control that will affect the result.
We have no control over the outcome. We can only control the now. We only have control over the part of the process that we are busy with this minute.
We must not forget that the outcome still matters. The process says the outcome matters, that’s why we are focusing on the process. Regardless of what the outcome may be, what the result of the process may be, we still have to do the work. We still have to do the practice.
This process might not lead to the desired result, however, the next time we put this process in motion we can start from a place of experience. Getting us closer to the result, or outcome that we desire.
Every process, every practice is a place of learning to perfect the process.
