There are a lot of things in this world. Some of it you may like, some of it you may dislike. Then, there will be some things that you cannot stand at all.
I’ve seen it many times where someone dislikes something, and they must tell the entire world how much they dislike it. I have also been guilty of doing this.
Tim Minchin gave a commencement speech at the University of Western Australia, where he presented his 9 rules to live by. Point number 7 struck me as fairly important:
Define yourself by what you love, rather than what you despise, and lavish praise on the people and things that move you.
Far too often we try to define ourselves by what we don’t love. To the point where it appears people are forming little clubs of people who despise a particular thing.
Maybe, just acknowledge that the thing you don’t like is not for you and move on.
A series of books, or movies, or a television series might not be to my taste. That does not mean it’s bad, it just means it is not for me. It’s for someone else.
The world would be a particularly boring place if everyone liked the same things.
